Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Announce NYC Residency at Beacon Theater | New York Music News

Tom Petty TourIt’s been almost three years since Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have played a gig in New York City. Someone must have recently them, “hey, YOU DON’T COME AROUND HERE NO MORE!” because the band has announced that they will be playing at the Beacon Theatre on May 20, 21, 23, 25, and 26th! That’s right, it’s a residency! After that they play five nights at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles.

This is a great chance to see an American rock icon in a venue far more intimate than the massive Madison Square Garden, where Tom & Co. played the last time they swung through the Big Apple.

Tickets go on sale March 25th – mark your calendars! Prices have not yet been released but we’re willing to bet it won’t be FREE (FALLIN’). Does anyone camp overnight outside the box office anymore? No, because YOU DON’T HAVE TO LIVE LIKE A REFUGEE! Just log on to ticketmaster.com on the morning of March 25, cross your fingers, and remember, EVEN THE LOSERS GET LUCKY SOMETIMES. Tell yourself, “I WON’T BACK DOWN!”

Until then, just remember, THE WAITING IS THE HARDEST PART.

Governor's Ball 2013

2013 GOVERNOR’S BALL LINEUP ANNOUNCED | NEW YORK MUSIC NEWS

Go to Duane Reade right now and buy some sunscreen. You’re going to need it. Three days in the hot, New York City sun will leave you redder than a lobster. Why spend all that time outdoors subjecting yourself to UV rays and increasing your risk of skin cancer? The Governor’s Ball is back!

Governors Ball 2013 LineupNew York Music News was at the Gov Ball festival last year, bringing you video coverage of Beck playing “Where It’s At”, interviewing Australian band The Jezabels, and keeping our fingers crossed that Fiona Apple was feeling okay. The festival was a tightly run ship last year, with two stages providing a non-stop stream of great music with no overlapping sets. This year’s Gov Ball is going to be an even bigger affair, expanding to three full days, June 7, 8 and 9.

Who’s playing? With such a huge list of artists dipping into myriad genres, it’s probably easier to ask who ISN’T playing. Check out the list of artists & bands below and be sure to check back later because one mystery headliner has yet to be announced!

(Editor’s note: read through the list and then read through it at least two more times; the list is long, there are sure to be a few surprises that you missed the first time around – Animal Collective? Wild Nothing? Death From Above 1979? Best Coast? Sharing a stage with KANYE WEST???)

Tickets go on sale this Friday, January 25. Get ‘em HERE.

And like Baz Luhrmann said, don’t forget the sunscreen. Seriously.

SMASHING PUMPKINS WITH MORNING PARADE TO PLAY MAKE-UP SHOW AT BARCLAY’S CENTER DECEMBER 10 | NEW YORK MUSIC NEWS

Halloween is back! Smashing Pumpkins and opening act Morning Parade are playing Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Monday, December 10 after the show scheduled for All Hallow’s Eve was postponed as the Frankenstorm battered Brooklyn. It’s a shame that we probably won’t get to see Billy Corgan in costume as Jack Skellington, but fans of the Pumpkins are sure to be treated to 90’s classics “1979” and “Tonight, Tonight” as well as a good dose of new tracks from their latest album, Oceania. Make sure to get there early for English rockers Morning Parade, who could easily win over fans of Snow Patrol or Coldplay with their melodic and finely crafted songs, such as their current hit climbing the charts “Headlights”. They promise to be more than the average opening act, and a nice complement to Smashing Pumpkins’ sweeter side.

Show Forecast: Pearl and the Beard, Lucius, You Won’t @ The Bell House | New York Music News

What if Paul Simon was not born in 1941 (thanks, Wikipedia!) but somewhere closer to 1990? What if instead of writing songs about feeling groovy on the 59th St Bridge, Paul the millennial wrote songs with Back to the Future references? The result would likely be You Won’t, an indie-folk duo consisting of Josh Aroudse and Raky Sastri. “Fat and Happy,” the opening track of debut album Skeptic Goodbye, has all the major-key happiness and sweet harmony that Simon is known for, but with a Vampire Weekend-like edge. Skeptic Goodbye is a pleasant early-morning record without going too far into Wes Anderson twee territory (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

Come early this Saturday for You Won’t, and stay for the luscious sounds of Lucius.

And keep it going for the beautiful vocal stylings of Pearl and the Beard.

You Won’t are playing the Bell House in Brooklyn this Saturday night, Dec. 1, opening for Pearl and The Beard and Lucius. $15, doors open at 8:30. Buy tickets HERE.

Show Forecast: Diamond Rings and Gold Fields @ Bowery Ballroom | New York Music News

(Read by, C. Heston) Geologists are reporting seismic events to “take place” on December 4th, 2012 at The Bowery Ballroom with kinetic emissions from Gold Fields and Diamonds Rings. It will be Dark Again and children of the night are advised to warm up by stretching upon entering the contained geologic anomaly.

Gold Fields are said to produce physically percussive natural vibrations and most commonly accompanied by mammoth and a sometimes wordless vocal chorus. During a Gold Fields experience, you will feel bursts of excitement flowing into a syncopated tranquility as seen below.

Most know Diamond Rings glamorously excavates electro-pop, drawing people to its lustrous, stimulative and sincere emotive qualities. Dazzling sensations will ensue, resulting in gyrating body movements that can be set to autopilot as you Run Away With Love.

You can bring your bodies to the Bowery Ballroom for Gold Fields and Diamond Rings to loosen your extremities and core out your moves.

2012, New York
